3 Quick Tips To Help You Keep Weight Off!

So the excitement of the new year has began to wear off. The weight you have lost so far this year may be creeping back in. Take a step back and refocus on your long term goals. Remember, a little sacrifice now makes for a big reward later. When summer comes around and you are the most ripped guy or girl around you will be thankful you didn’t make it a habit to have too many beers or too many sweets. Here are three rules to live by heading into summer that will help you look your best:

1: Don’t skip meals

When trying to lose weight you would think it would be beneficial to skip a meal from time to time. Less calories=weight loss, right? Well, not necassarily when it comes to skipping meals completely. When you consume calories your body acts like a furnace to burn off the calories you are taking in. This gives you steady energy to use throughout your day and while you’re at the gym. By skipping meals you aren’t giving your body the fuel it needs, and you will begin to feel lethargic. You will sit down more, and be less active throughout your day, encouraging fat deposits to form. You may be too tired to hit the gym, and you’ll get that creeping thought that “I’ll just do a double workout tomorrow”. News flash, you won’t. So don’t skip meals now, keep your body fed, and keep that furnace burning.

2: Watch your liquid calories carefully

Liquid calories are tricky. Even if you’re keeping track of what you’re eating, it’s easy to forget the calories you drank throughout your day. Cream and sugar in coffee, sweetener in iced tea, soft drinks, they all count and they all add up quickly. The easiest way to cut calories is to simply drink more water. The more water you drink, the less of everything else you will drink. I try to shoot for a gallon per day, but just do what you can.

Another big culprit for liquid calories is alcohol. Alcohol is made by fermenting sugar, and that sugar still contains calories. The typical beer has around 150 calories, and you will typically find more in sweetened cocktails. Now, I’m not saying that you should cut out alcohol completely if you don’t want to, just remember that liquid calories count too, and they’re typically made up of simple carbohydrates.

3: Forget about dessert:

I should actually say approach dessert with moderation. A little bit of sugar goes a long way, so if you simply must have dessert have a small piece. It will satisfy your sweet tooth and avoid the extra calories that you don’t need. When is the last time someone said “I’m glad I had that third piece of cake”. Yeah, never. So avoid it if you can, and if you simply must have some, practice moderation.

So there you have it! Three way to cut out a significant portion of your calories while still staying satisfied. Now is the time to push through to summer with your abs intact. Remember, you will thank yourself later.
